About Indoor Food Grower

Who we are

The Indoor Food Grower editorial team researches, evaluates, and writes about indoor food-growing equipment — smart gardens, vertical hydroponic towers, grow tents, LED grow lights, hydroponic nutrients, and monitoring tools. Every recommendation is calibrated for real food crops, not cannabis. We are independent and do not accept paid placements or sponsored reviews.

Why this site exists

Most indoor growing content on the internet is written for cannabis growers. The PPFD recommendations are 2-4x higher than food crops need. The equipment recommendations are overspecced and overpriced for vegetables. The nutrient content assumes flowering-stage chemistry that lettuce and herbs don’t use. And the grow tent guides include carbon filters that ~70% of food growers don’t need.

We built this site because we couldn’t find the content we needed as food growers. The indoor food-growing market is real and growing — especially after AeroGarden’s wind-down in late 2024 left millions of owners looking for alternatives — but the editorial infrastructure hasn’t caught up to the demand. This site is that infrastructure.

What we cover

Everything you need to grow food indoors, from countertop smart gardens to vertical hydroponic towers to full grow tent setups:

  • Grow tent kits — AC Infinity, Spider Farmer, Mars Hydro, VIVOSUN, Gorilla
  • LED grow lights — AC Infinity IONFRAME, Spider Farmer SF series, Mars Hydro TS/FC, HLG, Barrina, SANSI
  • Hydroponic nutrients — General Hydroponics Flora Series and MaxiGro, Masterblend 4-18-38, Jack’s 321, FoxFarm

We cover the US, Canadian, Australian, and European markets — including voltage variants, regional brand availability, and local distributor channels.

What we don’t cover

Cannabis. We don’t write about cannabis cultivation, cannabis-specific equipment configurations, or cannabis-related topics. Not because there’s anything wrong with cannabis growing — there are excellent sites for that — but because food growers need different PPFD targets, different CFM calculations, different nutrient profiles, and different equipment recommendations. Mixing the two audiences produces content that serves neither well. We serve food growers only.

How we make money

We earn affiliate commissions when you buy products through links on this site. The commission comes from the retailer or manufacturer, not from you — you pay the same price whether you use our link or not.

Our affiliate partners include:

  • Amazon Associates (US, CA, AU, UK, DE, FR, IT)
  • Click & Grow (direct affiliate program)
  • Lettuce Grow (via ShareASale)
  • Gardyn (via Impact Radius)
  • AC Infinity (direct affiliate program)
  • Spider Farmer (direct affiliate program)
  • Mars Hydro (direct affiliate program)

We do NOT accept:

  • Paid placements or sponsored reviews
  • Product gifts in exchange for coverage
  • “Pay to play” inclusion in our comparison guides
  • Brand-dictated review scores or rankings

Our recommendations are editorially independent. When we tell you not to buy a carbon filter or that lettuce only needs one bag of MaxiGro, we’re choosing honesty over commission revenue — because trust compounds and short-term affiliate tricks don’t.

How we evaluate products

We have a dedicated Methodology page that explains our evaluation process in detail. The short version:

  1. We research before we recommend. Every comparison guide starts with 2-4 weeks of product research, SERP analysis, aggregated owner reviews from Amazon, Reddit, and hydroponic forums, and cross-referencing against manufacturer specifications.

  2. We distinguish between hands-on experience and aggregated data. Where we have direct hands-on experience with a product, we say so and specify the duration and conditions. Where we’re relying on aggregated owner reports, we say that too. We never imply hands-on testing we haven’t done.

  3. We calibrate for food crops. Every PPFD target, CFM calculation, nutrient recipe, and temperature range in our guides is sourced from university extension publications for vegetable production — not cannabis-grow forums.

  4. We update quarterly. Pricing, availability, and product specs change. We run a quarterly audit of all comparison guides and update them with current data. The “Last verified pricing” stamp on every article tells you when the prices were last confirmed.
