Affiliate Disclosure Policy
Last updated: April 15, 2026
The short version
This site earns money through affiliate commissions. When you click a product link on this site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission from the retailer or manufacturer. You pay the same price whether you use our link or not. The commission comes from the seller’s marketing budget, not from your pocket.
Our editorial recommendations are independent of our affiliate relationships. We recommend products based on our research and evaluation process (read our full methodology), not based on which products pay the highest commissions.
Our affiliate partners
We currently participate in the following affiliate programs:
| Program | Commission rate | Cookie duration | How we use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Associates (US, CA, AU, UK, DE, FR, IT) | 1-3% depending on category | 24 hours | Most product links for brands sold via Amazon |
| Click & Grow (direct) | 10-15% | 45 days | Click & Grow Smart Garden product links |
| Lettuce Grow (via ShareASale) | 8-10% | 30 days | Lettuce Grow Farmstand and Nook product links |
| Gardyn (via Impact Radius) | Varies | 30 days | Gardyn 4.0 product links |
| AC Infinity (direct) | ~8% | 30 days | AC Infinity tent kits, LEDs, controllers, fans |
| Spider Farmer (direct) | 10% | 30 days | Spider Farmer LEDs, tent kits, controllers |
| Mars Hydro (direct) | 10% | 30 days | Mars Hydro LEDs and tent kits |
| LetPot (direct) | ~10% | 30 days | LetPot smart garden product links |
We do NOT earn commission from:
- Tower Garden (Juice Plus+ MLM distribution — standard affiliates not accepted)
- Gorilla Grow Tent (no active affiliate program at time of writing)
- Masterblend International (no affiliate program — Amazon Associates covers Amazon-sold Masterblend products)
- Inkbird (Amazon Associates only)
- HM Digital (Amazon Associates only)
- Bluelab (via specialty retailer affiliate programs where available)
What we don’t do
- We don’t accept paid placements. No brand can pay to be included in a comparison guide, to receive a higher ranking, or to appear above a competitor.
- We don’t accept sponsored reviews. No brand pays us to review their product. If a review exists on this site, it’s because we decided to cover the product based on our editorial judgment.
- We don’t accept product gifts in exchange for coverage. If we receive a review unit from a brand, we disclose it explicitly in the article. As of this writing, no article on the site was written using a gifted review unit.
- We don’t allow brands to see or approve content before publication. No manufacturer, brand representative, or affiliate manager reviews our articles or ratings before they go live.
- We don’t inflate ratings to protect affiliate revenue. When a product has real weaknesses, we say so — even if the brand is one of our higher-commission affiliate partners.
How affiliate links work on this site
Product links on this site use cloaked redirect URLs (formatted as /go/{program}/{product-slug}) that redirect to the retailer’s product page with our affiliate tracking attached. We use link cloaking for:
- Link management — if a retailer changes their URL structure, we update one redirect instead of editing dozens of articles
- Click tracking — we log which articles and which CTAs generate clicks so we can understand what’s useful to readers
- Disclosure compliance — cloaked links are clearly distinguishable from non-affiliate links
Every article that contains affiliate links includes an inline affiliate disclosure near the top of the article (within the first 200 words) plus a full affiliate disclosure in the article footer. Both link to this page.
The economics of our recommendations
To put the incentive structure in plain terms:
- When we recommend the Inkbird ITC-308 ($35) over the AC Infinity Controller 69 Pro ($99), we earn approximately $1.05 instead of $7.92 per sale. We make the recommendation anyway because the Inkbird is the right answer for most food growers.
- When we tell you not to buy a carbon filter, we earn $0 instead of the $10-13 we’d earn if we recommended the AC Infinity or VIVOSUN filter kit to every reader. We make the recommendation anyway because ~70% of food growers genuinely don’t need one.
- When we include Tower Garden in our vertical tower comparison, we earn $0 on any Tower Garden purchase — their MLM distribution doesn’t accept standard affiliates. We include them anyway because buyers genuinely consider Tower Garden and deserve honest coverage.
These are real examples from our published content. We share them because transparency about incentives is the foundation of editorial trust.
FTC compliance
This disclosure is published in compliance with the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) guidelines on affiliate marketing disclosure, specifically the FTC’s Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255). We disclose our affiliate relationships:
- Inline — at the top of every article containing affiliate links
- In article footers — with a link to this full disclosure policy
- On this dedicated disclosure page — listing all affiliate relationships and commission structures
